Equestrian Goals for the Year Ahead

Equestrian Goals for the Year Ahead

The New Year brings a time for reflection and when better to set equestrian goals for the year ahead. What are you hoping to achieve with your horse this year? Are there any specific targets that you would like to reach or any obstacles you hope to overcome? Maybe your first time competing, or a horseback riding holiday?

Below some of our colleagues and friends have outlined what they hope to achieve in 2022!

Blog writer, loyal customer and recent winner of 'CS Share It' Lindsey writes about her plans for 2022.

"In 2022 I look forward to continuing to pursue my goals as an equestrian. Between having a baby just months before the pandemic and then figuring out how to balance mom life and horse life, my goals certainly haven’t been accomplished at the rate I would have like them to be. However, that doesn’t stop me from setting them and working towards them, because it’s truly about the journey for me anyway. If there’s a rosette or two along the way, that’s just the icing on the cake.

This year my main goals are to haul offsite regularly for clinics and lessons, and *Drumroll please*…get back to competing after a 3+ year hiatus. I’ve been focusing on dressage with my ottb, Atticus, and I look forward to getting in the sandbox again and seeing where the year takes us. Most of all I want to have fun with my horse and build on our relationship and trust, always keeping in mind what a privilege it is to spend time and work with these creatures that fuel our passion."

Friend of Country and Stable, Devon Eret details her goals for her horse Gary this year.

"My 2022 goals are first and foremost to continue to have a happy and healthy horse and riding partnership. I already achieved my goal of competing in the 3’3” Amateur Owner Hunter division however, I would love to continue to compete at this level as well as show in the Adult Equitation and local medals. My goal is to qualify for our local CHJA Medal Finals in 3 different medals. I am looking forward to a great year ahead!"

Previous Country & Stable ambassador Joslyn tells us her goals for the year ahead with her horse Dolce.

"I recently had a baby in mid-October. Having had a C-section, I was cleared to ride at 6 weeks postpartum. Dolce and I have been back to riding since then and have our first show in spring! We are gaining strength and getting back at it. We have a show at the beginning of February and I’m excited to get out there and have the hard work pay off. Continuing  into the year I would like to focus on strength, consistency and partnership with Dolce. We hope to do some more shows if we are able to. I would also love to do a few leadline classes this year with Dolce and our little baby Evelynn once she is big enough. Cheers to a great year and achieving your goals no matter how big or small they are!"

Our Great British Sponsored Para Dressage rider Amanda Shirtcliffe has big plans for 2022!

"I have 3 wonderful horses and we have lots planned for the year ahead:

Flava - Compete in our first Para International. Flava has made it through her first season as a Para horse. She must now step up to International level and prove she has what it takes to compete against the rest of the world.

Princess Fiona - Princess no longer needs to prove anything, she's been there, done that and got all of the Para t-shirts. This year we will simply enjoy time together and see how far we can climb up the able-bodied levels.

Princess Fiona's other goal is to consume less carrots! Having signed up to equestrian weight watchers last year, Princess had made good progress but indulged a little too much over the Christmas holidays. With spring just around the corner we will definitely be counting calories.

Tottie - Tottie took early retirement at the end of last year, her one and only goal is to stay out of trouble and not get injured.

My personal goal is an amalgamation of all of the above. On the competitive side, I want to push my boundaries and aim to compete with Flava in a PSG by the end of the year. On a more personal level, my aim is to limit my chocolate intake and get my wonky body back into some sort of shape. I haven't set myself too many goals, the focus will remain on the horses whilst I do my best to stay in the saddle and avoid further injury!"

Country & Stable US Customer Service Advisor Ellie has lots planned to aid her horse's recovery after Kissing Spine Surgery last year.

Woman riding horse in field

"Tommy and I are now well underway with his recovery from his Kissing Spine Surgery in June 2021. We have been very optimistic since his surgery. The surgeon had decreased his chance from 70/30 to 50/50 full recovery. The process has been hard work physically and mentally for us both. We are now back into full work and this year started lessons again. We aim to keep working on our flat work and hopefully within the next six months getting out to training clinics and dressage tests. I would like to think Tommy will one day, in the foreseeable future, start jumping again as this horse was born to jump. However, this is not essential for us. My biggest aim is keeping him happy, comfortable, and enjoying work and life."
