When competing, it’s obviously your skills on the horse that’s key to getting a good result. However, your clothing and overall appearance is also incredibly important in upholding standards and putting in a professional performance.
That’s why we’ve put together some of our favourite women’s equestrian show clothing, specifically for dressage and showjumping. Take a look below and see why you need these equestrian clothes and accessories before your next big show…
Comfort is of utmost importance when show jumping. You need a jacket that’s fitted and looks the part, but also provides flexibility and freedom to properly control your horse at all times. If you’re not able to move properly, then you may not be able to maneuver your horse exactly as you need to, which could be disastrous for your score.
HV Polo Ladies Hollywood Competition Jacket
The HV Polo Hollywood competition jacket is a classic fitted design, available in three colours, and made with polyester and elastane for optimum comfort and movement. It has attractive buttons and chambray detailing to really make you look and feel fantastic.
In dressage, what you’re wearing plays a huge role in how you perform and, ultimately, your score. A fitted riding jacket will help the judges better see your back and saddle - a baggy jacket might give the impression you’re slouching or not sitting properly, which will more than likely lose you marks.
At some levels, tailcoats or shadbelly coats can be worn, but these are usually for advanced dressage shows - always double check the rules of dress.
Pikeur Ladies Daisy Riding Jacket
This slim cut Pikeur Ladies Daisy Riding Jacket is perfect for competing thanks to the Pikeur Softshell built in to keep you cool and dry when the competition hots up. Its stylish yet striking designs, with cream braiding, will no doubt catch the judges’ eyes, while also providing a flattering fit with ample movement and flexibility.
Your show shirt should have a high collar to look the part, but choosing the right shirt is as much about comfort as anything else - you want a shirt that’s going be flexible and keep you cool in warm conditions as well. You don’t want to be worrying about your attire rather than focusing on what you and your horse are doing.
Some disciplines may require you to wear a collared shirt and tie - again, always check the dress code.
HV Polo Ladies Honeyville Competition Shirt

Being the clothing that’s in contact with the saddle and the horse, your breeches are incredibly important. A good pair of breeches, either with a ¾ seat or full seat, as well as inner leg patches, will improve your grip and posture, and, consequently, your control over your horse.
If you’re collapsing to one side and sliding around in the saddle, then not only does it look untidy, but it will also have an impact on how your horse moves.
Pikeur Candela Breeches
These Pikeur Candela breeches are a high waisted version of the ¾ seat breeches. They feature two front pockets and decorative quilting on the rear, mixing function and fashion effortlessly. They’re available in a wide selection of colours, although white or beige is preferable for shows.

You should wear tall riding boots unless otherwise stated. Ensure you have a pair that fits correctly and allows you to get a good feel for the stirrups and the horse - and always keep them polished!
Suedwind Junior Jump Riding Boots
The Suedwind Junior Jump riding boots are actually for adults as well as juniors, so everyone can enjoy their unbelievable quality. They feature a calf leather upper, Derby lacing, and an OrthoLite breathable insole and lining for fantastic comfort and dryness.
